Martha needs a job

Martha Molasses Grace (our border collie) needs a job to do.  She's been coming up with all kinds of little "tasks" on her own lately, like chewing up the boys' caps or just plain being underfoot and "attentive." (read: annoying)

I definitely have to give some serious thought to what daily assignment I can train this dog to do so she feels like she's working for us.  I've read that border collies thrive on working and pleasing their owners...if only she knew that pleasing me meant not smelling like a dog and being cuddly like a cat...

Yeah, I need to come with something soon.   She's definitely giving me signals.

  4. For the last week and a half, my 6 year old dog has taken to using my kitchen as a bathroom several times a day, chewing the molding at the front door and vomiting profusely when the mail man arrives. I'm not sure what happened but I'm close to considering daily sedation.

This of course does not help you. However, if you find a job for your dog, please do share it with mine :D

  5. I'm reading about ant watching youtube videos with Cesar Milan. We have 3 Cavalier King Charles Spaniels(there used to be 4 but we gave one away) and a hound/lab-mix. The Cavalier's problem is that we have too many of them. The lab mix think she is the pack leader and our barking guard dog and needs to greet everyone intensely that comes into our house. Kid number 2 and 3 will arrive sometime during the summer and wee need to do something about the dogs so right now I'm learning the dog whisperer's way...

  6. Do you do all the usual things like bury bones deep in the backyard (where you won't mind some digging) or put dog snacks in plastic bottles for her to destroy or tie something fun to the clothesline and spin it so she chases it? How about putting some meat up high in a tree and see if she can learn to climb?

  7. Hahahahahahaaa!!! I've got a bored black lab over here who would love to play with Martha!! And I agree with some of your other commenters...you need more animals for Martha to herd. Yep, that's the answer, all right! :)
