I'm posting early today because Suvi and I (and a couple of mom friends and their daughters) are going to see The Sound of Music on stage in Toronto tonight.  This is the production where the the character of Maria is being played by Elicia MacKenzie, the winner of the CBC television competition "How do you solve a problem like Maria?" from 2008.

And we're very excited.  Suvi's been to a few live musicals now and really enjoys them.  We've been watching the movie version all week and she's ready to Do, Re, Mi and yodel her heart out tonight.

I was surprised how curious she was about the German/Austrian aspects of the story and why Captain Von Trapp was being forced to join the German military.  Tough to explain to a 7 year old.  Of course, she most especially couldn't understand why Rolf suddenly didn't want to be with Liesl anymore.  So much is lost in love and war...

In any event, we're off shortly and hoping for a song-filled evening of fun with the girls!  I'll leave you with this, the beautiful and talented Elicia, who we'll hope to hear sing this for us tonight!
