Cough, sneeze, snort...ugh...

There's not much that's better than being a mom with two out of three kids also sick and then getting sick yourself.  Yes, that's right.  Sick mom and sick kids to take care of.  It's the best.

I love that I can be in the middle of a coughing fit and three children stand in front of me all talking at the same time, trying to get my attention or asking me to do something.  Like, hello?  Can't you see I'm hacking up a lung here, little people?    Of course not.

It's "But Mom!  I don't want to practice my piano!" and "Mooooommmmmy?  Mooooommmmy?" and    "I'm thiiiiirrrrsstyyy!!"  All in unison.  All hitting that sweet pitch that makes my already pounding head and crackling eardrums implode.

I had to just walk away (with them trailing behind me, still complaining) because I had already lost my voice to said sickness and they couldn't hear me trying to answer each of them.  A desperate attempt by a mute mother.

It's like a Calgon moment except no matter how hard I wished myself away in a nice, hot bath, I would open my eyes and they were still all there.  All still whining at me.

So, I did what any good mother in my position would do.  I threw them all out into the snow.

Kidding.

No, I sucked it up and, despite my throbbing head and nausea, I let each have their turn and dealt with their requests (in my muteness) as best I could, using hand signals and stern facial expressions.

Because I'm a mom.  And that's what I do.

And what's the reward for all this self-sacrifice?  Hopefully children that will sleep through the freaking night for once and let me have some rest!  :)

  1. Awww...I hope you feel better. It is awful to be sick-- I'm still getting over it myself.

I made my husband stay home--fuzzy headed me is no good.

  2. Yes. We have 2 sick toddlers and one sick man at home currently. So off course it's like 3 sick toddlers! Hang in there.

    My best, Lynn

  3. Oh no! Sorry you're feeling under the weather. Hope all of you feel better soon. Honestly, I think one of the hardest things about being a SAHM is that you really don't have the option to stay home when you're sick...well, you do, but it's just not the same.

  4. One of my favorite things my daughter does is ask me a question, and while I'm still answering it, asks me another one. Really???
    Hope you're feeling better soon!

  5. I can't believe your kids still ask you to do things when you are sick. Mine just go into the living room and play quietly (without peeing their pants, fighting or asking for food) all day long. I love to get sick and do it as often as I can. My children have allotted me 15 paid sick day a year where they leave me alone...
    And then I woke up.
    Hope you get some rest.

  6. It is not fair but that is what we mommies have to do.

There are no sick days for Mommy.

    Hope you feel better soon.

  8. Gah, I only have one, but am going through the same thing. I'm sick, she's sick...dad's sort of sick...no good! But, she has absolutely no sympathy for me even though she'll nurse dad back to health...what's up with that? lol

  11. Ugh, hope you feel better soon. So terrifying to see the first kid sniffle and sneeze knowing we're all about to feel the wrath of the cold. And, yeh, Sick Mom is always On...no downtime there.
